Diny Golder of JES & Co. Speaks at the 5th Seminar, EdReNe (Educational Repositories Network)

Diny Golder of JES & Co. spoke at the EdReNe international seminar in Copenhagen, Denmark on October 6th and 7th about the connection between the learning object and the learning line, the curriculum. Ms. Golder was invited to speak due to her worldwide recognition as a leader and expert on interoperability and repositories and for her role in developing the Achievement Standards Network (ASN). The ASN is a framework for describing curriculum standards developed by governments and other organizations to prescribe what students should know and be able to do as a result of specific educational experiences. The Achievement Standards Network joins the National Education Association sponsored digital library, Gateway to 21st Century Skills, as part of the Global Learning Resource Connection (GLRC). The GLRC connects the dots between learning resources across borders and learning sectors.

As the Executive Director for JES & Co., Ms. Golder has played the key role in the international collaboration and development of open standards that allow resources to be discovered and easily shared, enriching the curricula in each nation.

The EdReNe seminar presented EdReNe’s recommendations and experiences on repository strategies, the engagement of users and producers, relevant standards to ensure interoperability, and the handling of intellectual property rights. The recommendations can be found at: http://edrene.org/results/deliverables/EdReNeD2.7Recommendations.pdf

“I feel honored to be asked to speak and share the global vision at such an important European seminar,” explained Diny Golder, Executive Director of JES & Co. “Leo Højsholt-Poulsen, the coordinator of EdReNe, was a gracious host and generous to invite me to participate in their initial discussions of the project EfL – Europeana for Learning.”

About the GLRC
The Global Learning Resource Connection (GLRC) is a public-private collaboration which brings to fruition ongoing work between JES & Co., a U.S. 501(c)(3) education research organization, corporate sponsors and education agencies worldwide. Leading the initial corporate involvement are founding worldwide partners Microsoft, Cisco, Cengage/Gale, the National Education Association (NEA), and other leading corporations in process. The GLRC ties together several significant semantic web technologies developed through funding from the National Science Foundation and is designed to support cyber learning. The GLRC supports the implementation of the mapping of major collections of learning resources in systems around the world to the machine-readable expressions of the learning outcomes based on the Achievement Standards Network (ASN) modeling and technical framework. The work will implement the international linking of those resources through trans-jurisdictional mapping of learning outcomes by means of Semantic Web/Linked Data principles for teacher/learner access and use.
